Lorde, Lorde, Lorde! This op shopper is a bit behind on her posting schedule due to preserving & the Grammy’s (yay Lorde!)
…However, I did discover Macklemore’s Thrift Shop song.
(its been out how long??? and you call yourself an Op Shopper…SHAME!)
The Thermos & the pottery both come from the Christchurch City Mission Sydenham
This house we’re relocating was partially furnished when we moved in. I’ve searched high & low to find an ideal replacement mirror, thinking I’d have to return it.
After coming up with nothing, I simply asked the owner if I could add it in with the other chattels we’re buying she said yes. Score!
Preserving Season:
Aside from thrifting, I’m also into the whole urban farmer thing. Am just getting into preserving.
This week: shredding & freezing courgettes (zucchini), making Gin, & toothpaste
Next week: Tomatoes, more courgettes, & maybe some apricots
Warning: this song contains the “F” word
Hmm “I’m gonna pop some tags…Only got $20 dollars in my pocket
Might need to wash my mouth out with the unsweetened version of that toothpaste after singing that song (I added peppermint to make the toothpaste more palatable)
Got a favourite thrifted drinking vessel? (my Fire King Mugs are my fav), but this thermos is definiately in the running. Have any op shopped pottery that you connect with? Is there a thrifting theme song running thru your head
(quite like Max’s Rebel Yell)
I’d love you to share your thrifting strategy or your own op shopping experiences in the comments below. I’m all about sharing the knowledge, but if you’re an Op Shopping Ninja who thrives on a stealth mission, I get and respect that too!

i love a good old thermos saves you a fortune in he long run #magpiemonday
Hi Becky! The older ones seem to be manufactured better and much more styley too 🙂
Nice to see you tried the toothpaste 🙂 I am also making drunken Plums this season! A friend just made me a heap of vodka so I’ll be experimenting.
Have you tried homemade vanilla…once you make it you won’t go back to the fake stuff. So easy…a 26er of vodka and 3-6 vanilla beans split & scraped into the vodka. Let sit 4-6weeks. Definately worth the cost of the beans. 🙂 Heather
One of the first things on my list! Great minds…:)
Hi Becky, they sure do! We have a couple thermos’ (thermai??) in different sizes too. Am always on the lookout for ones with a stainless steel inner.
LOL! At least you found it!
Don’t go poppin’ tags – it’s not actually a good thing. The actual meaning.
:)hey Racket! Yep, probably should’ve blogged/posted another lyric from the song, but that was the one running thru my head at the time 🙂
Wow you have a busy week! Love the idea of preserving! #MagpieMonday
Hi Lucy, the whole preserving thing is kinda fun…like a mini experiment. Helped my grandparents and an Aunty quite a bit when I was young. Growing up in summerfingers &hands changed colour by the week depending on what we were jamming/bottling/pickling
I am coveting your flask. But then I do love a flask. Or 6. x
Am a firm believer in having several in various sizes..just in case! Loved your recent flask post on #magpiemonday
visiting you from the Op Shop showoff. Love your finds and it looks like you are super busy!! I too am doing heaps of the zucchini shredding to freeze for use in winter
Hi Karen thanks for visiting! Have loved your op shop finds too (esp. The one where you decluttered your pantry with retro/thrifted Tupperware). Actually really like this time of year. What do you use your zucchini for? I make a choc/zuchini cake and a choc/blueberry zucchini muffing. PS you have the same name as my fav childhood neighbour 🙂
